Jim Marshall, M.A., the creator of Journey into Love established MasterCare Institute in 1996. The Institute is devoted to providing innovative training, resources, counseling and consultation for you, your family, your church, and your organization, grounded in clinical competence and innovation, and founded on Christian faith.
Philosophy of Helping
As a therapist Mr. Marshall has accessed the incredible potential for healing within people by combining the liberating compassion of Christ with the best of psychology submitted to the ultimate authority and wisdom of the Scriptures. This, however, does not mean "Bible bashing" or proselytizing when counseling or leading retreats; the first step in extending the love of Christ to clients is to show respect for their inherent dignity as people "fearfully and awesomely made" by God. Secondly, to embrace the belief that each person is fully able to teach a humble listener what her greatest need, aching, and desires are, leading to a pathway of healing as client and therapist collaborate in building a treatment plan. As Rich Mullins wrote:
"I will be my brother's keeper, not the one who judges him, I won't despise him for his weakness...
I won't take away his freedom, I will help him learn to stand*
Mr. Marshall practices from a Christian perspective but treats individuals of all faiths. He integrates cognitive, psychodynamic, and systems approaches with other treatments including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Dr. Colin Ross' Trauma Model, and Coherence Therapy in accord with each client's needs, and our Philosophy of Helping noted on this page.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Per his travel schedule, "Jim" no longer provides ongoing therapy but does offer single session consultations to asess and, as appropriate to intervene and create "breakthrough" shifts in personal and corporate issues.
